Jamie McHale

Bass guitar & lower strings

Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Jamie has more than earned his reputation as a performer. From his background in big bands and orchestras as a teenager and acclaimed performances across Europe including playing in front of an over 2,000 strong audience at age 19 in the Piazza Della Signoria, Florence, Italy. His diverse background shines through in his performances across musical disciplines & genres, featuring on numerous Jazz, Soul, Popular and Folk recordings. Jamie has also performed guitar for several musical theatre productions including "We Will Rock You" and "Rent". He also contributed multiple instruments to the Scottish debut performance of Chinese opera “The Weaver Girl & Oxen Boy”. 

Over his career so far, Jamie has been a member of various groups; from professional Ceilidh bands and function bands, to his time writing and playing in funk rock outfit "QUENCH" and, more recently, playing Bass and lower strings with Perthshire based psych-infused jangle pop band "True Gents" as well performing as a solo musician in his own right.

Joining Journey North on Bass in 2021 and contributing Cello to recordings Jamie continues his momentum bringing the influences from his career to new material and finding his place in a catalogue of what he describes as "Tasty alternative Celtic Rock, performed by great musicians."
